Family Dollar Arsons

Retail

The Family Dollar Arsons refers to the fires set at two Family Dollars in the city's Northeast Quadrant. The first occurred at Goodman Plaza, on the border between the Marketview Heights and Beechwood neighborhoods. This one was put out quickly. The second in Group 14621's Ridge-Clinton Plaza, however, turned into one of the biggest blazes in Rochester history.

It was quickly upgraded to a four-alarm fire, requiring the efforts of fifteen RFD companies and two more from the suburbs. Luckily, no firefighters or civilians were injured, although $3 million worth of damage was suffered by the Family Dollar, a Salvatore's, and cell phone shop. Rondell Flowers, a former Family Dollar employee, was confessed to the crime and was convicted in 2011.
