What is an ion footbath for? In today’s toxic environment, tissue acid wastes, chemical and heavy metal residues build up in the body faster than ever before, resulting in a greater incidence of allergies and stress. Today, we are hearing more about detoxification programs by alternative health practitioners as a way of reducing symptoms and maintaining health. How does ionization work?
Ionization has been used for many decades. However, the concept of using ionization in a foot bath is a relatively new idea. Similar phenomena occur while walking along a beach or near a waterfall. Ions are generated by the movement of the water molecules.
The same reactions are created with the Ion Detox Footbath. What is a session like? Feet are placed in a footbath of warm water and dead sea salt. An array goes into the footbath with the feet, and the main unit delivers a small direct current into the array, which, in combination with the water and salt, generates positive or negative charged ions.
These ions neutralize charged particles in the body. The neutralized particles are pulled out of the body through the pores of the skin via osmosis and diffusion. Osmosis and diffusion involve the movement of particles through a membrane, from a lower concentration to a higher concentration. In this case, the higher concentration is the ion field set up by the array in the water.
Research In addition to many positive testimonials from clients, there have been studies to test the efficacy of ionization in footbaths. Some studies have reported high heavy metals present in the water following the footbath, and Dr. Carlos Lopez-Moreno, M.D. conducted a study which showed the presence of urea, creatinine and glucose in the water after an ion footbath treatment.
