Abraham M. Schermerhorn was Rochester's third mayor. He was elected as mayor in 1836, succeeding Jacob Gould, and served as mayor until 1837, when he was succeeded by Thomas Kempshall. He was born on December 11, 1791 in Schenectady, NY.

He later moved to Rochester in 1813, and became supervisor of the city in 1834. He died on August 22, 1855, and is interred at Mount Hope Cemetery.1 1http://bioguide.congress.gov/scripts/biodisplay.pl? index=S000122
