Alexander is a small town with a population of about 2,500.1 It is located about 40 miles southwest of Rochester in Genesee County, South of Batavia. Route 20 and Route 98 are the major roadways through town. The town was named after Alexander Rea, a settler. He was a surveyor for the Holland Land Company, and made his first purchase of land in the town in 1802.

He founded the village of Alexander.
