Anarchism

General

Anarchism is a broad political philosophy, centered around opposition to any sort of non-reciprocal, non-consentual authority. Read more about it at the Wikipedia entry on Anarchism. Rochester has several ties to anarchism, including the fact that when Emma Goldman moved to the US in 1885, she first settled here, in Rochester. http://www.liberaterochester.net/ is a guide to local anarchist activities.

No longer active —Anarchist views have been stigmatized for over 150 years, generally conjuring images of absolute lawlessness or bomb-throwing vigilantes, yet the philosophies exist to this day and are often radically misunderstood. Oppressive ruling classes have spurred anarchy throughout history. Many people consider modern libertarianism to have premise in anarchy.
