If the Rutland Herald is to be believed: Thanks to the efforts of Rochester resident and scoutmaster Robert H. Link, the plaited lanyard came to be known as the boondoggle at the 1929 World Jamboree of Scouts in England, where it then went on to be presented to the Prince of Wales. If you used to doubt the historical relevance of our humble city, no longer is there need. And now you know.
