- As all residents of Upstate New York know, Buffalo-style chicken wings — complete with blue cheese dressing and celery — originated at The Anchor Bar on Main Street in Buffalo in 1964. Chicken Wings (aka wings) are a serious part of the Middle/Western NY cooking scene. Buffalo Wings, are of course, the most famous variety. Rochester Wings are a distinct culinary tradition with a tangy sauce. An example of this style is Country Sweet.
