Martial Arts America is a Martial Arts facility that has 3 Rochester locations focusing on Karate. The first is located in the Winton Place Plaza in the western end of the complex (moved in November 2007). The second is in Penfield, on Rt. 250 and Penfield Road. The third is in BayTowne plaza, 1900 Empire blvd in Webster, NY. Sensei Matt Dorsey, 9th degree Black Belt in Isshin Ryu karate, is the owner and master instructor of Martial Arts America. Sensei Dorsey has almost 50 years of martial arts experience and studied Isshin ryu karate under Sensei Joe Jennings and Grandmaster Angi Uezu. He took over one of Sensei Jennings' locations in 1980 and has taught thousands of students since then. He has become one of the area's top experts in karate and self defense. Besides operating the 3 dojos with his team (Kelly Williams and Jon Emerson), he also organizes traditional karate tournaments in the area Martial Arts America teaches the Isshin Ryu style of Okinawan karate. Classes are offered for children (as young as 4), teens and adults. Specialty classes in self-defense and other related areas are offered from time to time. There is also an Iaido (Samurai Sword) class at the Winton Place location which meets on Saturday morning at the Brighton location and on Tuesday evenings at the Webster location. Fitness kickboxing classes are offered on Tuesday and Saturday at the Penfield location.
